The digital identity challenge

The problem

In 2024, the cost of global cybercrime is expected to exceed $10 trillion euros, with 80% of this crime estimated to result from stolen and misused identities. Additionally, the majority of the world's digital identities are not real humans but fake identities and bots. Some claim in order to respond to these threats, we have to choose between security, usability and privacy.

We know there is a better way.

Our open solution

SIROS Foundation is a new non-profit organization established in December 2024 with a mission to provide a next generation digital identity platform for the internet. Our solution builds on wwWallet, an open source project that was initiated by GUnet, Sunet and Yubico. Our unique Internet-first approach relies on open standards, including Passkeys (also called FIDO or WebAuthn) for strong authentication, OpenID and ISO 18013-5 as identity protocols, and eIDAS 2.0 as a regulatory framework in the EU. Watch our demo video for the Funke German ID wallet competition.

Strong security

By building on Passkeys, integrated in all leading platforms and browsers, our solution offers phishing resistant end-to-end security, no single point of failure, a minimum attack surface and a path to eIDAS HIGH assurance certification. The user can combine syncable Passkeys, integrated directly into computers and phones, with physical hardware Passkeys, enabling a wide range of security requirements and scenarios.

Privacy protection

Our solution never collects user data in any form. By using FIDO passkeys all user data is encrypted with a key that only the user controls. The user's data cannot be shared with anyone unless the user has given their explicit permission. There are no backdoors and it is possible for the user to protect their data from the mobile platform. Also, we are working to support zero-knowledge proof technology using FIDO Passkeys.

Easy to use

Our solution offers unprecedented usability improvements over all alternatives by combining native platform support for Passkeys with full encrypted data portability across all devices. We can offer solutions for shared devices, legal entities and representation, as well as for phone restricted areas, disaster and emergency services and a fully customizable user interface.

Cost efficiency

We rely fully on standardized web technologies and no proprietary technology. Our solution can be deployed even without requiring web or app download. By using Passkeys, backup hardware is affordable, minimizing account recovery and support costs. Open standards also enables an open marketplace where credential issuers, identity providers, relying parties, integrators and hardware authentication vendors can compete and develop value added solutions.
