The digital identity challenge

The problem

In 2024, the cost of global cybercrime is expected to exceed $10 trillion euros, with 80% of this crime estimated to result from stolen and misused identities. Additionally, the majority of the world's digital identities are not real humans but fake identities and bots. Some claim in order to respond to these threats, we have to choose between security, usability and privacy.

Our solution

We know there is a better way. Siros Foundation is a new non-profit organization established in December 2024, rooted in creating an open, secure, privacy-preserving, borderless and frictionless digital identity approach for all. We exist to protect people from stolen, misused and fake identities, to reclaim the internet for all of us who are real humans, and help to rebuild an internet of trust.

Open standards

Based on the existing open internet standards we have already helped create, we combine OpenID Connect, used by all leading single-on services, and FIDO and Passkeys authentication, supported by all major platforms and browsers. We also align with the ISO 18013-5 standard that defines how mobile driver's licenses are used for digital identity, and the EU Digital Identity framework, advancing towards a common digital identity standard for Europe by 2026.

Open source

Our technology builds on wwWallet, an open source project that was initiated by GUnet, Sunet and Yubico. Siros Foundation is set up to support this project with dedicated resources. We will offer free code, reference implementations, and technical support for any organization that wants to build identity solutions at scale. Our solution works across all devices and platforms and is not dependant on collecting and selling user data. Watch the video for the Funke German ID wallet competition.
