29 Apr. 2025
ISRG, the nonprofit behind Let’s Encrypt, has launched a new initiative to better understand emerging systems for human digital identity - and how they could strengthen privacy and security online. In this post, Josh Aas explains why ISRG is partnering with the SIROS Foundation to explore digital credential ecosystems such as mobile IDs, web-based credentials, and EU-wide interoperability efforts. The collaboration will include research and development related to PKI infrastructure, with any software produced released as open source.

ID Tech Wire
22 Oct. 2025
Germany’s national EUDI Wallet innovation competition has wrapped up in Berlin, signaling a shift from early prototypes to live, deployable wallet implementations under the EU’s eIDAS 2.0 framework. wwWallet, alongside HEIDI, Animo Easy-PID, and Lissi ID-Wallet were recognized for advancing interoperability, usability, and privacy, with approaches ranging from web-based passkey wallets to open-source components and finance/public-sector integrations. Several of the showcased modules are expected to feed into EU large-scale pilots (including WE BUILD and APTITUDE), helping accelerate real-world rollout by reusing proven software rather than conceptual demos.

PC för Alla (Swedish)
01 Dec. 2025
The article discusses growing concerns that the open web is being weakened as AI-driven services, apps, and closed platforms take up more of people’s time and attention online. Leif Johansson is interviewed about how the idea of a fully “open web” is partly a nostalgic ideal, and why the real threat today is the concentration of power in a few large companies whose business models don’t align with open-web principles. He points to platform dominance and market concentration (for example, major companies owning multiple social networks) and argues that the gap between content producers and consumers is widening, which undermines the open web’s original promise.

TV4 Nyhetsmorgon breakfast TV show (Swedish)
29 Dec. 2025
This TV clip looks at how cyberattacks have escalated in recent years, with everything from BankID to payment systems being targeted. It also highlights how, in a highly digitalized country like Sweden, the line is increasingly blurred between the impact of a traditional military attack and a cyberattack. Stina Ehrensvärd and Patrik Fältström are interviewed about how AI is changing the threat landscape — making attacks faster, more scalable, and harder to spot — and what a modern defense could look like, including stronger authentication, improved resilience in critical systems, and a more “defense-ready” approach to cybersecurity across society.

Identerati Office Hours podcast episode 164
13 Jan. 2026
Most people think of wallets as a mobile phone-based construct, but a new "web wallet" called wwWallet has emerged as one of the leading solutions in the EU digital identity wallet pilots, where the primary security device is a passkey or a Webauthn token. It turns out you can do a lot with the browser, even in-person proximity flows. The need for native device API access is very small, passkeys do almost everything needed by a wallet. In this video, Leif Johansson and Mike Schwartz discuss some of the challenges, including selective disclosure and trust models.
